Whitsundays Ferries And Water Taxis

For the convenience of island and mainland guests of the Whitsundays, there are ferries and water taxi transportation services which cover the entire Whitsunday region and operate from two main launching sites. On a regular basis, ferries and water taxis depart from Shute Harbour on the mainland and the marina on Hamilton Island. These services provide a unique opportunity for passengers to enjoy the beauty of the famous Coral Sea waters, while being quickly transferred to specific island and mainland destinations.

Located approximately six kilometres from Airlie Beach, Shute Harbour is the second busiest harbour in Australia. Constant water taxis and ferry services depart this mainland point on a journey to a vast array of drop-off points. Hamilton Island also has a very busy marina which has waterborne, public transportation services that connect with all arriving and departing flights. For island resort guests and campers, water taxis and ferries are the most convenient for of transport to each individual destination.

Visitors to the Whitsunday Islands who sail in a private vessel, or have chosen a bareboat charter, please note that anchorage sites around the islands may be restricted due to large water taxis and ferries needing enough room to manoeuvre.

I have booked three days on Hook Island (May 3rd) and have a couple of questions as I will be coming into Townsville late on May 2nd

    1) What times do the ferries operate?

    2) Is it possible to get supplies (fuel/water/food) locally before departure times (Ie will shops be expected to be open).

    3) I assume travelers need to book itineraries for drop-off and pick-up. How far in advance can we do this?
