Communication Services Whitsundays Australia

While staying at one of the elusive Whitsundays accommodation venues, communication services such as public and private phones, internet connections and the post, are all important forms of contact with the world outside paradise. Different resort islands feature different services, depending on the level of seclusion they wish to achieve.

The Whitsunday resorts which advertise internet access can be found on Hamilton Island, Long Island, South Molle Island, Brampton Island and Daydream Island. The majority of guestrooms include internet access points as part of their modern amenities, with relatively fast internet connections. Also, in many of the backpacker and youth hostels, internet booths or internet access point can easily be found, usually in the games room.

At most of the Whitsunday Island resorts, private phones can be found in each guestroom, if not there is always a public phone in the resort’s foyer. Local calls from a public ‘Telstra’ phone usually cost 40cents, with areas outside the local vicinity or to mobiles costing more. Public telephones usually accept coins, but in rare cases they may only accept phone cards, which can be purchase in denominations between $5.00 and $50.00, from any post office, newsagent, resort desk and information centre. For Whitsunday Island campers, mobile reception is usually poor on the islands, but taking a mobile is recommended, especially during cyclone season (December to March).

The only Whitsunday Island post office can be found on Hamilton Island, which has its own post code and over 1,500 permanent residents. Along with Hamilton Island, there are two post offices on the mainland, in Airlie Beach and Cannonvale. For all other island guests, the resorts are serviced with postal deliveries at various times during the week.

The mere fact that there are still places that are “off the grid”, is magical. Sounds like paradise to me. No distractions , just relax and communicate face to face, the old fashioned way.
